What is a SALT project?
The Dallas County SWCD applied for and received a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources funded by the 1/10th of 1% parks and soils sales tax for the Greasy Creek Watershed. The AgNPS (Agricultural Non-Point Source) SALT (Special Area Land Treatment) project will focus on the land draining into the Greasy Creek. This Project began July 1, 2005 and will end June 30, 2012.
The Greasy Creek Watershed consists of 41,963 acres in Dallas County and 4,264 acres in Webster County. This watershed was chosen because of its diversity in both topography and farming operations. Primary land use within the watershed is pasture, hayland and woodland.
The landowners in this watershed do not have to bear the burden alone. The Greasy Creek SALT Project has cost-share and incentive practices, technical assistance and informational programs to help landowners protect our natural resources.
